About the collection

The collection was first gathered together when the cities of Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond were amalgamated in 1994.

The indoor collection includes contemporary art, heritage art and heritage decorative arts which can be found throughout council buildings

The outdoor collection includes memorials, monuments and public art which can be found in streetscapes, on buildings and in parks across Yarra.

In 2009 the collection was formally recognised with an Asset Management Plan to protect and grow the collection through a combination of council budget and generous donations. In 2010 Council was recognised as a Cultural Gifts Organisation, and this has been the most effective means of growing the collection.
