About the project

The Draft City of Yarra Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2013-17 has been developed following stakeholder consultation and extensive research. Council is now welcoming feedback from local agencies and the community.

The Health Plan is a significant strategic document which sets the health priorities for the municipality and informs Council actions to improve community health and wellbeing. The plan is about improving how Council works in a health promoting way; that is, enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. It is about improving quality of life by acting on the causes of illness and by addressing the determinants of health.

The priorities for the Health Plan 2013-2017 are:

  • Health Promoting Environments
  • Community Safety
  • Reducing the Harms from Alcohol, Tobacco and other drugs
  • Closing the Gap on Indigenous Health

How will Council achieve its goals over the next 4 years?

There are nine key aims in the plan and under each aim come a number of directions which describe how Council, in many instances in partnership with local agencies, will improve health and wellbeing of the community.

Documents available for download include the Health Status Report which provides the evidence-base for priorty-setting, and the Draft Health Plan 2013 - 2017. They are in the Library on the righthand of this page.

Your opportunity to tell us if we got it right...

There is now opportuntiy to tell Council if you agree with these priorities and are heading in the right direction to improve the health and wellbeing of the Yarra community.

The aim of this consultation is to gather your feedback to inform the final draft of the Health Plan which will be presented to Council in October 2013.
