This consultation has now concluded.

In early 2015, Council held extensive community consultation on how to better balance the needs of all park users.

Council then sought feedback during August on proposals based on suggestions put forward by the Citizens Park User Group (CPUG) and the wider community.

Thank you to everyone who made a submission and provided input into this process.

At the 15 September Council meeting, the final outcomes of the community consultation were presented to Council. Council resolved to take action to manage risks and balance the needs of all park users including:

 • 3 sporting clubs
 • dog owners and walkers
 • the local Richmond community.

You can find Minutes from the 15th September Council meeting on the 2015 Council meetings page on the Yarra City Council website.

What makes Citizens Park attractive to users and how could this be replicated or met elsewhere?

Intensity of use was a problem identified during the CPUG meeting 1 disucssion. This is unlikely to reduce, so a question of how the use can be dissipated at peak times was discussed. One participant suggested it is not all about Citizens Park, and minor infrastructure changes at another park might mean people have options to go elsewhere when Citizens Park is busy.

What would be an acceptable period of time for closure or limited access to the grounds for comprehensive work to the turf? For example; 2,3 or 4 weeks? Once or twice a year? How long is too long?

Further to the discussion of intense use, turf management was briefly raised at the CPUG meeting 1. As it is a challenge for Council to do the necessary work when the ground attracts high use, year round please provide your thoughts to the answer below:
