This consultation is now completed. Thanks for your feedback.

Following community consultation between 2015 and 2017, a new pocket park is being constructed in Mollison Street (at the corner of Charles Street), Abbotsford.

The new park will help meet the growing need for open space in this part of Yarra, and will help create a more liveable, healthy and sustainable city.

The works are scheduled to commence Monday 9 April 2018 and expected to be completed in 14 weeks, subject to weather conditions.

There may be some noise and dust during the works, but we will try and keep this to a minimum.

Working hours are 7.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 3.00pm Saturday.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works, and thank you in advance for your patience.

Alternatives to Closing the Intersection (March 2015 consultation – user generated topic)

1. The west half of Mollison Street is closed off at Nicholson Street; this area could easily be extended to make a park.

2. The south end of Charles Street is closed off near Victoria Street; this area could easily be extended to make a park on the north side of the closure. It also has the advantage of being well shaded, unlike the alternative sites.

3. There are three vacant blocks within five minutes walk: 43 Nicholson Street between Langridge and Victoria, 10 Charles Street near Victoria Street and 71 Charles Street near Mollison Street. These are undeveloped sites and thus could be acquired as land value only by the Council.

4. The Abbotsford Primary School also has an open space, which would be ideal both in current facilities and location. Perhaps a negotiation with the school might enable use of this location.

Welcome skaters (March 2015 consultation – user generated topic)

In a time of increasing obesity and fatter kids, we should be using parks to get people active. Our kids spend too much time indoors because streets are unwelcoming and overtaken by dangerous vehicles and drivers.

Most park structures feature metal protrusions to stop skateboarders. I'd like to propose the opposite: reinforce structures to accommodate skateboarding. I know this will be controversial, but I'd rather hear kids in the street enjoying themselves on skateboards than cars and trucks.
Excellent Idea (March 2015 consultation – user generated topic)

Excellent idea to use the vast streets for public
amenity. Strong support from Mollison Street resident here!

Few suggestions:

- Keep road access both ways.
- Extend ‘park’ along Mollison Street to Little Charles / Nicholson Street (on southern side) which only has a few car parks. Park at end of Mollison / Nicholson is very poorly maintained and full of bottles etc.
- Parking is being taken up by day workers. Change parking signs to Permit only + 1hr during day on Mollison St (especially with new apartments developing)

Thanks

Anne (March 2015 consultation – user generated topic)

Why was there no consultation with the residents directly effected by this park? Surely there should have been a survey first? There is a large park only 5 minutes walk away in Park St and a small one in Nicholson St.
